Mountain Bicycling Two Day Tour
Just
minutes past the Sarasin Bridge (the bridge to Phuket)
you’re in a truly rural part of Southern Thailand.
This is most farmland made up primarily of rubber tree
plantations. This translates to loads of wonderful single
track trails.
The
first day starts off on the first day of the coast to
coast route and then drops south to reach the Jungle
Lodge Resort. This is a 40 kilometer route, though it
can be extended to much more if you wish to have a longer
ride.
There
are a lot of single track trails along this cycling
route. You will do a bit of riding on secondary country
roads and dirt/gravel roads at times.
Small village snack shops offer you
a chance for a cold drink and to try some of the local
snack items. Most are really tasty, some are a rather
interesting.
You will end the day's ride at the
Jungle Lodge Resort, a friendly little out-of-the-way
bungalow operation.
The next day's ride is a big loop.
You will start riding from the Jungle Lodge. You have
a bit of road at the start. This offer a chance to warm
up a bit. Next, you go into the jungle and rubber plantations
for a while. You will briefly return to the road, then
head offroad again.
There's a small village where you can
get some refreshments (included) and take a break. You
will be on dirt roads and single tracks after this.
There are a couple of places where you will see both
Phang Nga Bay and Phuket.
You can see a couple of YouTube videos
of the ride here
and here.
This two-day trip is an excellent way
to see rural Thailand without having to travel too far
from Phuket.
Jungle
Lodge Resort
You'll
stay in the Jungle Lodge Resort (bungalows) in Phang
Nga Province. This small bungalow operation offers you
a chance to experience wonderful local Thai food in
a quiet, natural setting. The bungalows are situtated
on a mangrove river channel on the edge of a rubber
plantation. There is a small pier leading to the river.
The
restaurant serves wonderful seafood and authentic Thai
cuisine. If you are not into spicy food, don't worry,
they can tone it down to your liking. If you do like
it 'real', you are in luck.
There
are only eight small bungalows available. Two bungalows
have air conditioning and the others have fans. All
of the bungalows have hot showers.
This
trip includes all transfers, a quality mountain
bike (with a helmet), lunch, snacks, water, and insurance.
You
should bring riding shorts, gloves and suitable
shoes. If you wish to bring your own pedals, that’s
fine. If you have a Camelback or similar personal
hydration system, please bring it.
